The Man Who Threw Seed From His Window ~ Part 3 of 4

When they first bought the house, the yard was bare, hard clay with patches of stringy grass. Over many weekends they dug and scraped, bringing in good topsoil begged from friends and transported in buckets.

They bought packets and packets of flower seeds, intending to plant them in beds of ordered colour, but then my Mother said “Let’s just go upstairs and throw them out of the window!”

And he heard his grandmother’s voice again and in that moment he knew what sort of man he wanted to be.

From that day on, whenever they needed to celebrate a momentous event, seed would be purchased and flung from the upstairs bedroom window, accompanied by the sound of laughter and champagne corks popping.

And Mahler, always Mahler.

@Sandra - I've rediscovered my vinyl collection (although a lot of it's going on ebay)

@Irma - You're welcome!

@Stephen - Even though some of this is fiction, it's a sort of tribute to my parents. They didn't own a house until very late in their lives.

Ruefully, I have found that all the Mahler I own is on vinyl, with the exception of Titan - difficult to listen to from upstairs (where my computer is) unless all the neighbours share the experience :(

Remember, you need time for Mahler. The Ninth can run for over 80 minutes, depending on who's conducting.

Right, you've convinced me, I must put some Mahler on the CD player ...
