Smells from the kitchen invited growls from his belly. He turned his head and yelled vague impatience in the direction of his wife, who was used to an ungrateful attitude and simply ignored the noise. She slowly stirred the risotto, savouring the rich aroma of her cooking, and thought about divorce.
Discontent had been in her bones for a long time, but she hadn't acknowledged her real feelings until now. Clamping her eyelids shut, she could feel every fibre of her taut and trembling flesh. She thought - forever cannot be like this.

This is really good. Really left me wanting more. I wanted some of the risotto, too.

my first attempt at a female perspective jodi; but, of course, it aint, the 'trembling' being that peculiar judder my own disobedient flesh fashions when confronted with an important moment about to be fought, , like when you were a kid in school and you got bullied for months until you finally wrestled your determination together to say 'fuck you' .. no?

I like the contrast you use. Trev said it best.

I'm not sure why she's trembling though. Because of the thoughts?

Stirring and thinking - people who don't cook much don't know what they're missing.
You make a great connection between the mundane and the profound.
