What can YOU say in six sentences?
He was behind me at the red light, a handsome forty-something guy in a big white pickup truck. I watched him in my rearview mirror as he raked through his salt and pepper hair, ran an index finger across his top lip and squinted as if contemplating something serious, then he tugged at his right ear lobe several times which made me decide stress was causing these nervous picking tics.

The last letter came in 1980 and was added to the others, a decade's worth in a plastic grocery bag which would accompany me when I went to live with her.
In 1983 the letters were joined by two small bear pins - a white one for her, brown for me, her two favorite shirts, a blue head band and a PDR full of red ink where she heavily underlined the name and dangers of the drug that killed her; the bag of her then followed me through ten more moves, three marriages, four births…

Science, technology, engineering and math. New studies are asking whether couples in these fields are more likely to have an autistic child, a child who typically has too many brain cells. They call these lovers with pocket protectors "systemizers", those who need to make sense of complex things. We are outnumbered by children which is why most of the adults here are holding small yellow requests for birth certificates.
Lisa calls me to the first window, an attractive woman in her mid-forties with short black hair and cool blue eyes, takes my check…

The ancient Basque population has the highest concentration of Rh negative blood which is important to know, just as it's important to know if you are astrologically compatible with your mate or were unfortunately born on a Wednesday/ Saturday (Woe/Hard Work).
You see, there are these strange but compelling theories which claim that the Basque people mated with (wait for it...) aliens to create rare individuals who are unusually adept at getting what they…

The Iran hostage crisis is over, Granny's neighbor Wayne is now a registered sex offender and another, John Spartan, is in prison with his father on drug charges; she tells me these things in the same sentence, as if they are relative and of equal importance.
She is wearing pants after a lifetime spent in modest house dresses and as she speaks of her twenty-one year old chihuahua dying under the bed a week ago I notice she only has six brown rotted teeth left in her mouth…
