once upon a time there was a place where you could buy your bread, get a haircut, get tickets to see bon jovi at the speedway, and have a simple luncheon with your grandparents all under one roof. if anyone knew you got your pixie haircut at lloyds, you'd be a dork. if anyone knew your clothes came from lloyds, you were a double dork and full worthy of humiliation and your nightmare sweat/tears were undeserved because your parents just didn't get it.

He Comes
Curled on her hip, hair full of sweat, one hand under the pillow and the other balled up in the blanket she stares at the wall instead of out the window because if their eyes meet, she knows it will be her end. She wants to move, to lay on her back or turn and lay on the hip that has no pain but he may notice her movement, so she lays still and waits for him to go.
