Cancer

It seems like there's more around than there used to be.  This makes the fifth person I've known personally, in just the past few years.

They say it's a case of Life gone rogue at the cellular level, unrestrained growth expanding without regard to function or boundary.

We were having breakfast at a cafe near the University of Washington when you got the call.  I knew by your face the news was grim.

--As a kid, scheduling a magic show for the neighborhood, carefully cutting out construction paper tickets, only to have one of the cool kids tear his up in front of me at the bus stop, saying, "No one's coming to your stupid fucking magic show."

--The way she got up in the middle of the night and…

A Beautiful Woman in Jeopardy

She's been waiting for someone like me, the strong sensitive type who sees the scared, vulnerable girl behind that capable veneer.

So it's a little insulting when she says, "You're a worse trap than the one I'm already in."

This is not how they said it would be.  This is not how the story was handed down.

I reach for her arm as she's turning away, I stammer, "Why are you treating me like the villain, when all I want to do is save…
