For 38 years, Henry tilled and harvested to feed the family. When the drought of 1937 broke him, the bank was quick to repo the tractor and remaining healthy livestock. He and Sallie moved to Johnson City (the kids were grown, anyway, and living in Knoxville and Little Rock), and she found work at the Five & Dime.

Playa and Simon, smiling, danced a samba for the cruise ship passengers in an upper deck lounge that was supposed to evoke a South American locale.
