Feeding Papa Smurf

Inside the refrigerator are books, a computer keyboard and a tin cup holding paint brushes, the condiments relegated to the shelves in the door, alongside a bottle of chablis and a single Corona. The light within illuminates the naked man peering inside in search of a "midnight snack," the title of my self portrait hanging in our kitchen.

The 36x24" painting that leaves a lasting impression upon guests captures… Continue

Game

"It's not queer unless we use our mouths," Shelly told her sleepover pal, Tina, who had fallen silent in the afterglow of a silly game gone ... what, too far? not far enough?

Shelly had initiated the playful exchange by feigning sleep and tossing in bed, her arm innocently windmilling and coming to rest across Tina's tummy. “We’re NOT running… Continue

Pride Goeth Before the Goo

As I sat there amidst sports ramblings belching from half a dozen televisions, the young woman who’d just finished cutting my hair, whispered, “Whenst ya like splatchity pood in the air?”

Next came that increasingly familiar and awkward silence, when I suddenly realize someone has spoken to me. For all I could tell, the job was done (she’d even removed the black man-bib that had caught a shocking amount of gray hair ... some, disturbingly, that had been sprouting from my ear lobes),… Continue
