Sophia Wade 1804-1892 (Diana's challenge)

Despite that fact that any weakness or fainting  could be perfectly well attributed to either grief or her condition Sophia Wade, widowed at the age of 32 when pregnant with her sixth child, was ashamed for she had hoped to show neither as she followed the coffin of her husband James into the church, and…

Felix and Caroline: Wedded unbliss

Married life began in Felix’ mother’s house, not much change for Felix except sex on tap, but that quite soon became a dribble, as both of them became inhibited by the banging of the headboard on the wall between their bedroom and his mother’s.

He didn’t mind so much but Caroline couldn’t help but be self-conscious of cacophony so she called a halt to all conjugal antics, pouting prettily but perfectly determined.

Inexperience and innocence was anyway inhibiting, since… Continue

Who am I? (Cath Barton's excellent challenge)

Who am I?

Died at age 30

Published poetry (in 1846) with siblings under a pseudonym

Reverend’s daughter

Only one novel to my name.

It’s hero – a ‘dark-skinned gipsy’ -  remained ever-memorable.

Five faults plus one: A 6S Challenge

Like most people I am not without my faults, the following is just a selection, one of which is, in fact. not true.  I leave you to guess.

Or possibly pertained to last week’s pregnancy announcement.
But, last night I dreamt I had hip bones once again.

Cultural placement

The usual explanations clearly do not apply.

No obvious signs of decorating, imminent or recent.

Well-stuffed and several bookcases, original art on the walls, negate any diagnosis of lack of culture.

Less immediately obvious (some might calculate otherwise because of lack of giant flat-screen telly), we are not poor.

Yet on entering, especially at night, a first-time visitor to our house would very likely be confused, have difficulty in placing us within a rank of… Continue

Jogged memory

Found this photograph loose in the back of an album.

Written on the back ‘Scapa Haven Oct. 1997, Sunday lunch.’

Taken thirteen years ago in a house we no longer own.

Table, chair,  jug and jar (with brushes ) we still have.

No idea where the painting is, my…
