The Taxista's Question

The taxista has just asked me a question to which I have responded with a head nod and 'si' before he has even finished exhaling. I quickly realize that I don't know what I have just agreed to. He may very well have asked me if I would come back to his place with him and like a dumb gringa, as unfamiliar with the streets as I am with the language, could end up a meaningless statistic in a foreign country. Pulling the reigns back on my overactive imagination I settle on the likelihood, given the… Continue

9/21 10pm

What am I going to do with myself? I pulled through McDonalds this morning for breakfast only to find the tallest , cutest, doe-eyed , curly haired, half shaven, hopefully legal man-boy taking my money and delivering my food. Instantly, I smiled at him and made chit chat, while my mind took me to a naughty afternoon romp in which I instructed this young man in all the things that women like. Almost as instantly though I scolded myself and reminded me harshly that this dreamy young man was… Continue

9/20 3am

I miss Michelle. Well, I want to miss her but the truth is I feel guilty because I don't miss her much at all. The real Michelle seldom shows her face anymore, and when she does , it's painful to see how damaged she's been by her illness. Her illness has damaged us all in fact, but I try hard to remember that it is she who suffers the most. We sent our daughter to live with her grandparents, because our family couldn't bear... I couldn't bear the oppression of living at the mercy of Michelle… Continue

Moon Dust

by Adam J. Whitlatch

We never even saw it coming; the Caruu came down upon us like a summer rain – hard and fast. Their goal was to terrify us, to grind us into a weeping, pathetic pulp before destroying us, and they accomplished this with gusto when they destroyed the moon; Luna, a symbol of love and hope, the receiver of countless prayers of star-crossed lovers, the first of many goals… Continue

All I Can Say Is...

Being without internet sucks. I have to use a computer in my husband's office...once or twice a week...to do my business. And I hardly have any time to play around. But things will be changing soon and I'll be able to keep up with 6S!

Sticking to your principles

Its a battle we fight everyday, sticking to what you believe in,,

It might be tough, but if you don't have something you can believe in, you don't have anything.

If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.

No matter what's happened in your life, you can always lay claim to the fact that from this day forward, you've followed your principles to the best of your ability.

Look at the choices you've made in your past,

and… Continue

Out of the closet

Following the plan, it’s an insane one. It will change the rules forever, destroy my reputation. That would be if I have one left. It will also create a new one. I hope it’s for the best.

In this box I don’t have access to the matrix for a few days, I’m alone, just perfect. There are only 2 things to do in here, renovate the box and edit that book, that bomb I have been working on. I have been hesitating for years, to publish or not publish, that is the question. The friends’ reviews… Continue

Coons?

"When we get coons, Momma just sweeps 'em off the porch with a broom!"

Well, those two "nigger boys" finally stole something, but it wasn't mine.

Willie, Austin's older brother, was the victim. Willie is a tall 18 year old with a dark complexion, speech impediment and a menial part-time job to call his own. "Dey hole ma man goose" What? "Days tole my mom's goose!" I'm sorry, what the fuck did you say? After going around for a bit like an Abbot and Costello routine, I… Continue

The daughter of a hero

The daughter of a hero, the man who gives meaning to life,,,

What has become of her?

What has become of him?

She grew up,

Realised that life wasn't a fairytale,

Grew up to know that even her hero disappoints,

That he causes so much pain,

That he makes mistakes as well,

All things told no more do they make sense,

The world makes its own sense,

Who does she turn to,

To herself,

But even she… Continue

Writing??

Writing was so simple I thought!

Does one become a writer or is one born a writer?

The difference between having a passion for writing and developing a passion for writing?

Switching from being the reader to being the writer.

Almost all famous writers admit that they "decided to became" writers, and to my suprise only famous writers admit to this.

And then there are those who say they became writers by chance such as the Canadian author… Continue

I'm going to London!!

My story, Wrongful Life, won an honourable mention in the Momaya Press Short Story Competition:
www.momayapress.com
So I'm off to England in a few months to attend the awards party and to pick up a copy of their Annual Review. Whoo-hoo, my story will be in there...
Does anyone have any tips for traveling to London in November?
