An easy deal, a box needs fixing. The previous owners must have had cattle in there. It’s easy it’s cheap, some coins to be made. Elbow grease and cleaners, some flooring material, the whole place will be meaner. It’s gonna be Cat country, my own, from here I can go on the quest. The new life I kept on dreaming of.
The best plans are just that, a plan, reality comes knocking soon enough. The kitten that shared his box is out on the end of a baseball bat. Here goes my peace, I can’t…

As you may remember from my last episode of groveling and begging, I entered my three mastiffs in a local pet photo contest, sponsored by KDKA, which is affiliated with CBS. One of my mastiffs, Webster, seemed to be in the top 50 for some time, and at one point, was the top dog. Now it's hard to say where he is, so I was wondering, if you are interested in helping, would you mind clicking…

Sun is up, the dusting off is rough, head is heavy. The three legged kitty is gone and so are my collar and tags. I’m out of practice I got clumsy. It’s a nasty day replacing those things that got taken away.
I’m exhausted, the time in the cocoon was hard, the soft bed and dark light of the rent-a-box calls relentlessly. I nap, eat, nap and nibbles. I forage at all hours, have to get back into a schedule. On a foraging trip, in the darkest part of the night, I run into a kitty,…

I just got an email from Mr. Timothy Deal, editor of Shroud Magazine, letting me know that my new horror short story "Graveyard Shift" will be appearing in his new print anthology "Northern Haunts: 100 Terrifying New England Tales". This book will also feature a piece by Joseph Grant called "Down the Cellar".

Northern Haunts is available for pre-order now in two different formats:…

The UHaul is parked out front. We're loading it tomorrow and leaving Sunday morning. By Sunday evening, I'll be living in my new house...where I have no internet access and no cell phone coverage. I guess we'll see how long I last. I'll be using a computer at the local school for a few weeks...checking on email, doing business and of course checking here. I am moderately hopeful that I won't have to move again for several years. But don't quote me on that! I haven't lived in Western Washington…

The ultimate insult for an Alley Cat is being impounded, being thrown in the midst of tattooed and half skinned defective specimens. We all here for a reason, in most case it’s a lack of cognition. The talks are of crimes, glorified stupidities and exaggerated binges. Twenty five carbon based units in a cage, bad suits, no water, no books, only a couple small idiot boxes on stupid channels to kill the longest minutes of the never ending days.
No Cat napping here, the noise of the…

A reconciliation with Jack, a locked door, a French bitch, and out of the cocoon we are, It’s too soon. I’m not ready, it’s too late to be picky. The Cat’s shakes his tail and on the prowl he goes.
First a box, any box for now, need a nap. Off to the dump, the parties are still going strong.
Even in the dump rent-a-box are fussy, takes three and a three legged kitty to have one hand me a key. For tonight it’s drink and be merry

This was originally a big chunk, but I kinda like it like this better. I've never written poetry or anything, but I guess breaking it up like this makes me feel like a poet. Or something fanciful like that.
Thanks.
There are all these things wrong with me now;
they were probably there before,
but you made them harder to see or perhaps just easier to deal with,
you blinded me in the happiest of ways; thanks.
The list could really go on for a…

Okay, really, I'll be living about 20 minutes from this town...but this video captures the essence of the area. This is from the Logger Festival in Morton, Washington. Morton is in the foothills of Mt. Rainier. My favorite part was the ax throwing contest. Or maybe my favorite part was the guys running up and down the trees with huge saws dangling from their belts. I can't decide.
All I know is, I whine like crazy if I have to split more than 6 pieces of wood for the…

Think, think, THINK. You are strong, breathe in, exhale as well and remember a time when you needed no one. That should be no different now, I believe you are stronger than you give yourself credit for and there is so much more behind those red eyes and that tear-streaked face. If you concentrate hard enough, even though you don't recognize it now, you'll see the good in yourself; you'll hear those steady, rhythmic heartbeats and know you're still whole. You will, that's a promise that someone…

In just the nick of time you pull me back together. I reach for you eagerly, betraying my every reliable sense and listening only to quivering, vulnerable desire and the hurried palpitations of my heart. This is simple, there is no question. Endlessly I will allow you to help me to my feet, only to laugh as I trip and fall; occasionally you'll push me yourself. I need you, I'll always forgive you. Please, just don't expect me to help you up too.

“Hmm” I would thoughtfully say, and with the smug upturning of my mouth a slow chuckle would form. Wisely I would rub the tips of my fingers together, making the tiny bee noise and looking as if I had the cruelest of thoughts behind warm amber eyes; my mind would wrap around meaningless activities and routines of the day: what had I eaten for breakfast and what will I be doing an hour from now… “Have you made your decision?” You would be trembling then, my aura beating you over the head with a…

There are just some people in your life that you never imagine NOT being in your life....parents, grandparents, children, best friends of years and years....they are just always supposed to be there. Yes, we know by looking at the lives of others that death is a part of life and it comes for each of us....but it would be so much easier if it were just "us" it came for, wouldn't it? Yes, yes, I know....the truth is life would not be precious without the knowledge that someday it will end. We…

Some friends of mine have this thing going where you give a dollar to every bum you pass by to buy some Karma. I think they've spent a small fortune on me and my family...and it paid off because my husband just got a new job. We've been looking for months - and I have to admit we were getting a little desperate with school starting in a few weeks - but now we have one. Now we can stop worrying about how to pay the bills and start worrying about selling the house and moving. But that's the kind…

I keep making jokes about it being easier to burn the house down than to sell it...and you know what they say about wishes. Be careful what you wish for! It's fire season, and we have another fire burning just outside of town. With any luck, the wind will keep pushing it away from town.
