Down here in the alley when you make a deal, you respect it or risk forgoing one of your lives. Those expectations are deeply set, part of the code of honor. It would be considered bad form to gnaw half the bone you dealt on before handing it over!
The Cat has been getting a couple lessons lately; the first one being that before you consider shacking up with someone you should divorce them first. That way you would really get to know who they are and what to expect.

Kittens, they are so cute and cuddly when they first show up. Slowly they get bigger, livelier. And then one day they go to make their own ways in the world. As parent we did our best and wished them luck;
“I love you to pieces, but I don’t like you anymore!”

A kitten calls for help, she grown tired of hopping from box to box. The old cat is out and about, there is always food and shelter there. As a bonus, no more Miss Perfect Cat in the picture. They never got along.
A deal is set, a bigger box is secured. The Cat will harbor one of the kittens again. There are warnings, she has the heredity and skills of the Cat. How will that go?
