Undone: a Tale of 140 Tweets

Posted on May 22, 2009 at 5:30pm 3 Comments

The following six is the opening three tweets to my twitter tale, called Undone (it's a tale of love and magic and murder).

“Emergency services, how can I help you?” “My girlfriend, she’s hurt, she’s bleeding badly…” “OK, we need to stop that, here’s what you do…”

But the bleeding doesn’t stop & here I sit on a plastic chair in a hospital corridor, with the sounds & smells of sickness all around me.

the singer at the mayfair

Posted on May 18, 2009 at 12:41pm 2 Comments

"If I were rich, or I were famous," she sings of the joys of not being number one
and there's a guy behind her, standing there with a yellow balloon and a bag of popcorn
and he's making faces at his family in the audience, trying to get them to hurry along
and he's an idiot - oblivious to what's going on
but we're still tapping our feet and clapping our hands cos it's a really cool song
and if I were rich or she were famous, we'd neither of us be here, having fun.

This is my first story to be published - it's up on Thrillers, Killers n Chillers, which is a website for new authors to showcase their work, co-edited by fellow 6Ser, Col Bury.

My story can be read (if you want to) here: Home

the girl you could have been

(a double 6 and hopefully the last one that rhymes!)

Mirrors can't be trusted, I've known that a long time; I would take a drink, braced against the sink, watching myself all the while - I wanted to trace my own destruction, but my reflection looked fine; far prettier and younger than me, yet her face so like mine.

"Who are you?" I would ask her, "and don't tell me any lies."

"I'm the girl you could have been," my reflection would reply.

From the mirror my… Continue

the ghost who dreamed she was buried alive

Posted on April 22, 2009 at 10:08pm 4 Comments

I once thought I was buried alive, but surely I was only dreaming; but then when my eyes opened onto pitch night, I woke myself up by screaming. I screamed until my throat was raw, but no one came for me; they thought me dead, it was far too late, there would be no rescue for me. It was cold down there and I was afraid and there was no room in the dark for me; I was buried deep, it was far too late and there was no more air to breathe.

I dug my way out, my fear fading fast, like the… Continue

Thank you for your comment on my little story yesterday. I agree, romances can be saccharine and I risked sappiness. It's a balancing act, but then again, we write 6S to hone our skills. Looking forward to more from you.
