I Waited

Posted on September 6, 2009 at 9:13pm 5 Comments

He pushed through the doors of the train and ran along the platform, up the escalator, to find her, to kiss her, to tell her that he would never hurt her again.

Crowds passed by in blurred motion as he pressed forward towards their meeting place, Jimmy’s flower stand. But she was not there. He spun round and searched anxiously through the moving groups of anonymous faces when Jimmy called out, “Hey mate, are you Richard? Some woman left you this note.” He looked down in the dim light… Continue

Stories etched upon my face

Posted on September 6, 2009 at 5:35am 7 Comments

I brush my hair with the large round bristle brush until it leaps out with static. I try to tame the cowlicks above my forehead but they spring back round, defiant. I look into the bathroom mirror at the hair, the sunspots, the wrinkles, and notice how I’m aging. I feel tired, aware that my body tells all my stories like a schoolgirl who can’t contain secrets. And at that moment I realize that I’m no longer a girl but a mature woman, whose face is etched by the lessons of life. And I discover… Continue

Flowers from the Jetty

Posted on April 2, 2009 at 9:17am 5 Comments

It’s been a year since he died. And while you plan a ceremony where we all throw flowers into the water from the jetty, all I can do is lie awake at night remembering how empty his last days were; how distended his stomach, how pale his face, how gaunt his cheeks, how bony his hands. But you remember him differently; a young man with wild dark eyes who held your hand as you walked along the beach and sat with you on the jetty as the sun set low in the sky. Now, when I see tears of love for him… Continue

Fighting Sleep

Posted on April 2, 2009 at 9:12am 2 Comments

Fighting sleep is an art she has perfected. First it’s the toilet. Then she’s hungry. Then she wants her favourite dolly (and the teddy that’s still in the car). Forty minutes later she cries she’s dropped her dummy and I discover she has an assortment of things in bed with her including her new shoes placed neatly next to her pillow and a snoring toy puppy next to her head. What next!

The ill-timed reunion

Posted on January 24, 2009 at 4:30pm 12 Comments

Clea checked the house number and slowly pulled into the curb, parking her car outside her father’s house. There it loomed, an intimidating structure of brick and glass and winding steps leading up to the front door. She slid off the seat and eased herself out, locking the car then throwing the keys in her handbag. She observed the carefree way in which she threw the keys into her bag and made a mental note of how different it was to the way she felt – panicky and tight in the chest. She… Continue

Thanks for the gift! I don't understand it all really either ... Anyway!

Exams ... Ancient was bad, but I dropped it so I don't care. I justttt passed Earth which is rather exciting for me! English was good but I am not quite sure of the percentage. I stuffed up my Lear essay though - I knew it was my worst. PDHPE and Society aren't returned yet, 8/10 for my drama monologue and ... 15/25 for my Extension Essay and 19/25 for my creative writing. Which is fine considering I made the essay up on the spot ... And the creative writing was the same as I used for Advanced.

I'm a bit sick at the moment :( Had a blocked ear and have to go back to the doctor's again tomorrow. She gave me three days off school, but I should be there Friday ... what with Crossroads and all :)

How are you? Are you glad to return to school again?

X

Great! What a reassurance that was!

Thank you so much -- yes, I did read the comment, you're too kind. I'm enjoying writing more than ever lately.

You have a lovely weekend also -- and I'll try not to get blown away! The weather is so wild lately!

Emily Double :)
I'm so glad that Hannah's speech went well -- I just thought of something happy to tell you ... You know how I don't do English Speeches/Drama Monologues in front of the class? I did my Drama Monologue for the exam in front of the class ... Scary, but I was ... proud. I shouldn't be too proud, but I had this giant realisation that even when it feels like I'm not in control, God has it all sorted :)

Enjoy all that marking! Creative writing would be the best one to mark I think :) I'm worried about you reading my story!!

We went out to dinner at Mamma's in Sydney. We watched this play called 'An Intent to Murder' for our Crime Fiction Study next term. And the other people who do Extension are Carole, Catherine, Lana, Mel, Emily, Dom and Jedda. We also badgered Mr Rebel until we found out his middle name - we have been trying to find out for ages!

How did Hannah go?

Enjoy your weekend :)

Hey TooraLee,

How are you? I had a panic attack today with the Earth and Enviro Exam ... And I had to leave because I was freaking myself out and I threw up. That's how much exams get to me.

On the upside, we have an Extension English excursion tomorrow afternoon to Sydney. We're driving up in Rebel's car and plan on singing songs the whole way there. It shall be grand. x

Aww! Shiuan is the greatest :)

Thanks for your encouragement - I need to do a lot of praying in regards to next year I think and keep remembering that amazing verse - "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" (phil. 4:13)

:)

Anyway, I just thought you deserved an explanation!
How awesome was the rain this afternoon? It was so perfect :)

Have you started marking our creative writing yet? I am glad that you got them, better than Mr Rebel :) He's too scary -- haha ...

Anyway, not many plans for the holidays. Just getting my act together before year 12 (and it's my birthday in two weeks exactly!)

Are you guys getting up to anything?
