"OK! My elder daughter is going in for an operation on the 24th (nothing too serious) so the 23rd is out this month I'm afraid. But perhaps March?   Many thanks for asking me by the way."

His New Body

Posted on September 24, 2010 at 12:04pm 10 Comments

He scavenged the parts for his new body from all around the alleys and back streets. A discarded umbrella pulled from a bin made for an arm, its crook a hand. A length of rusting drainpipe and a rotting timber almost the same length made a workable pair of legs. A black plastic rubbish sack, its soiled cartons and rotting fruit for internal organs, would be his torso. A crumpled orange traffic-cone would do for his other arm and a punctured football his head. It all made for a… Continue

Meteorology for Beginners

‘And did you know that the wind is caused by all the trees flapping their branches at the same time?’
‘Really, Dad?’
I nod and Jake considers my words while we walk hand-in-hand through the woods, occasionally stopping for me to pluck him another blackberry.
‘Then how come it was windy when we went to London that time?’
‘Ah, well, you see, in cities they’ve had to build giant wind machines, because there aren’t enough trees there. Obviously.’

Hello Simon - Hope your daughter is okay.  The first meeting of our writing drop-in went well - 12 people. Mixed interests. We're definitely going to meet on the last Wednesday of every month, 6.30-8.30pm, Hen & Chicks pub in Abergavenny. So it'll be 30th March.  Do come if you can and give it a go.

Do let me know if you can come on the 23rd Simon. We'd be delighted to see you.The first hour will be people reading - max 5 mins each (more than one go possible if there aren't many of us) and the second hour informal chat. Drop in if you can't make the whole 2 hours.
