"The feelings women have who go through these things are outside my experience, so I can't speak to the content of your post.  What I can say is that your prose was easy to follow, and your story made me consider IVF a little differently."

The Crazy Things People Say

Her coworker, who had become her entrusted friend, told her to enjoy her week off, she was jealous that the girl would be gone from work and have time to rest. The girl was confused by the comment, like her dear friend thought she was going on an exotic vacation where she would spend her days drinking tropical concoctions with pretty umbrellas, while enjoying massages on the beach. It would be a significant week in the girl's life, possibly a life changing one, but fun would not be in the…See More

Not Enough Time

Posted on March 26, 2011 at 9:30am 9 Comments

Her writing block had finally disappeared and she had been writing for days when the doorbell rang. It was nearly noon, but she was still in her pajamas, and she quickly realized the damages that had occured in her absence. Their home was a mess; there were dirty clothes overflowing from the hamper and piling up in the hallway. Tables needed to be dusted, carpet vacuumed,  toilets cleaned and someone had gotten mud and something that appeared to be quite sticky, like grape jelly, onto the… Continue

In America

Sabrine had aged rapidly in America; her dark hair was turning gray and yesterday she noticed a wrinkle. America had not turned out to be the refuge she had hoped for; jobs were scarce and money was tight. Every day was about survival; prostitutes and junkies were now their neighbors. She couldn't help but worry about her daughters' welfare in this foreign land and her heart ached as she thought of the family members they had to leave behind. The normal evening sounds of sirens and bullets… Continue

Body Parts and Other Stuff

"You may feel a little cramping," he said, with concern. The girl held back her tears as she felt her whole uterus spasm with uncontrollable pain. "Looking good," he cried out enthusiastically like he was judging a piece of art at a county fair. "Finished, everything looks great, in perfect working order," he at least appeared confident in that white coat she thought to herself. She knew she should be thankful, she still had all of her parts and things appeared to be in working order. But she… Continue
