Real Love

Tell me, what do you think of me?

Honestly, I'm looking for dirt.

What do you mean?

I suppose with anything too good to be true, there has to be something bad about you and I want to find it and drag it out into the open.

Why, so you'll have a reason to get rid of me, is that it?

No, so I can learn to love that too, because the rest of you is perfect.

My Sentence

"There is no 'I' in team", our boss smirked, because he owned the team.

"True, though there is a 'u' in c-", I started, but my colleague stopped me.

Maybe it's because I didn't get a second chance, but I think of that as the last word I ever meant. Now my entire life is endless small talk, meetings, minutes and acronyms, I mean WTF? Still you've got to do the hours, pay your dues I suppose.

The days I wish I'd finished that sentence.

Rapunzel in Winter

The attentions of the overly affectionate should be taken with a pinch of salt. I have so many beating a path to my door there is now salt enough to clear the roads. Suitors' boots pound through the slush with claims they know how to warm my body. They have all heard the tales and they are looking to me to lift them to my keep. I fear if their intentions were so then they would not find it difficult to play my little heart like a tambourine. But I am so easily warmed by even the slightest attent… Continue

Why Am I Being Ignored?

For better or for worse I understand it is my job to be accountable, for finances and for answers. The last question my wife answered directly was 'do you take this man to be your husband?' Since then all shared questions of decision, which is to say all questions, have been deferred first to me. My beloved listens to me, as in the case of whether or not we can afford the boat (which we can), then she will make the informed choice; this is called a Joint Decision. Her input into this dynamic is… Continue

Nicely done. It's the way so many of us feel when we fall in love.

It's always those past thoughts huh. Maybe there would be more for me, maybe I wouldn't be doing this now. Six sentences to really think about in life.

smart: the writing, the colleague, the shop-worn adage (like bumper sticker wisdom: I thought I wanted a career, but it turns out I only wanted a paycheck). Masters of the universe: big bang time card punchees who lord it over small bang time card p…

Unfortunately I can't quite afford a boat, but then I don't really want one anyway! Which is shame because I don't have a wife to tell me no, so it's theoretically possible...

Ha! I wondered where you were going at the beginning of that! Good finish!

'thick and thin, mostly thin', great line. Very matter of fact, but warmly phrased.

I can hear the whole table stop in still at the arrival of that last line. I wonder how they all survived that awkward silence?
