How helpful has the "6" concept been to you in developing your writing?

What I found most unexpected about the concept was that I thought, "ok bang out 6 sentences, boom your done." I quickly learned that the story is skeleton, muscles, skin. Oddly on the first draft it…

Spooky question, and I'm too impatient to wait for answers in my fifties! What if the sooner we know, the better our chances of rewriting ourselves? Your first line was a hoot, and an immediate hook, bouncing along happily then dropped with, "awful…

I loved this, became the child as I read (and I used to LOVE to climb trees). It's interesting that Michael Brown commented on sentence four; it slowed me down so I reread it and clarified the intended meaning. Anyway, this was very nice, and it's w…

Hey Mark, a step back is what we need to go forward. Allow the story to dictate its needs. Your fingers are only the pasta in your minds bowl. No cheese, please. :)

Had to step away for a few days to focus on a project, but I just wanted to thank everyone for commenting on "Union". I really had not expected a side comment that I made and then continued to make would result in such a great philosophical conversa…

Ockham's razor, right? Not "always", but "usually". "The simplest answer is usually the correct answer"; a wonderful principle, but not the law. It is based on probabilities. Other than that, your comment is beautiful (I am not being ironic). Makes…

HI Jelana; BUT MY OH MY ARE YOU WRONG. let me explain my premise. Hormones dictate who and what we are. Expression and imagination is what makes unique. That's what joins us. We are creatues of our biology. Our creativity is us as a species. Without…

Union

Back of fingers caress cheek, hand cradling back of head, fingers lightly tugging hair. Smiling, gentle kiss, anticipation, joining, gasp of air, tensing, relaxing. Warm, smooth, rhythm beginning, beat missed, found, harmony. Breath becomes labored, forehead on shoulder, cheek against temple. Perspiration beginning, skin slick, pungent odor, nostrils flare, hearts racing. Vision blurring, ears hum, bodies in unison, motion erratic, approaching climax. Minds cloud, higher consciousness, straining… Continue

Promise, Revisited

Amber had asked him to promise that they would take a walk each day, no matter the length. Donald issued promises sparingly, as if they were very large equations that demanded great time and effort. He thought, she insisted, he promised. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday they walked, Thursday they missed, and Friday she was taken from him in an accident less than a mile from their home.

For a long period of time he wandered a vast emptiness, one exit clearly marked, the other faintly lit, beckonin… Continue

This Tree

Climbing into the crook of a tree always made Jeran feel like he was being cradled in a giant man’s hand.

His mother would warn him again and again “you can climb any tree you want, but not the one in the front yard, the branches are too small and you will break it.”

On his twelfth birthday his mom busy canning, he ran to the tree wrapped his arms around it and immediately felt a white hot flash of pain erupt in his left arm. Running into the house his mother surveyed the damage and looked at… Continue

Hazardous Driving Conditions

Alan had been driving eighteen-wheelers for about nine years, never having been involved in a serious accident. Running behind because of his last stop he was doing those things drivers do to stay awake: smoking, singing, winding the window down hoping the cool air would coax him out of his lethargy. He thought he had been looking at something in his mirror when his head snapped up realizing that he had dozed off. He saw as if in slow motion two boys in the back seat of the car, muscle memory sl… Continue

Hey, I hope it's worth the wait. Decades add years to your life, excuse the pun, but they do in wisdom. I find being 55 very gratifying.
