"I used always to write in first person. One summer, I spent two months rewriting my short stories in third, as an exercise, so I could learn to do it and to stay in POV. I found it a challenge, but it's good to be able to use one or the other…"

The Height of Conceit



He roared by in the conceit of his red Lotus at half-again the posted speed, passing the stopped traffic on the right shoulder, his hair a jarring yellow in the summer sun. Music pumped from all six vamped speakers, a cell phone was plastered against his ear.



He flipped the bird at motorists who honked and screamed in his wake as he headed, unaware, toward the cyclist lying on the verge ahead, awaiting emergency vehicles.

Hi Jean - That was fun last night. Thanks to one of the first few guys to read, I have been left with a new phrase that will keep me laughing for days, no months. It's disappointing though because I won't be able to use my new phrase on anyone but you guys - out of context will only get strange looks.
