It's the Same Old Thing

She was a cute little skinny kid with wide brown eyes and long dark brown hair; always inquisitive and full of herself.  She was already bi-lingual by the age of two; Spanish was her folks dominant language and  she managed to become fluent in English too.  They lived in a predominately Spanish-speaking neighborhood in the city because it would've been difficult to find lodgings elsewhere.  In other words, they were different and other people tried to "keep them" in their place.  That was a…See More

Be Ready

She was sitting in the middle of the deli while the lunch crowd paraded by, staring into space, her face speaking "a thousand words" and I could hear them; "I am worried, I am sad, I don't know what to do", and on and on.  I had been observing her from afar and could feel something wasn't right, as she sat with her face leaning on the palm of her right arm while she was still surrounded by the lunch dishes that had not yet been cleared from the table.  All the while my heart is thumping at what…See More

It's That Time Again

These are difficult times for so many of us.  The news keeps affirming the bad news, and not much else.  I guess I could stop watching the news, but I have a  need to know what's going on or "what's not happening.  I do pray a lot, having faith that God has a good plan for this country.  He never said "it would be easy", but He did say " to take heart for He had overcome the world".  In that spirit, I wish all you writers/poets a blessed day full of victories and the hope of better days to… Continue
