This dream took me out to the desert, where I look in a gopher hole and discover a stack of journals, which, although weather-beaten, I know to be worth a fortune. Who do I see that same instant but Milburn Drysdale and Jane Hathaway feverishly pedaling on a tandem bicycle. In November 1973 my Sociology class from Fresno City College took a field trip to the San Luis Obispo Penal Colony. I wore a light blue workshirt and blue jeans that day. So, it turned out, did the inmates and at the conclusion of the tour two guards walked up to me and asked to see my ID, which I immediately took out and showed them.
