"Rather long for a Six, I'd say. But yeah, there was a time when impressionists were high entertainment. Also at that particular time, as I recall, comedy was highly censored on television."

Now there are two of us.

Once in a while I’ve wondered what David Frye was up to. Frye was the master impressionist in the days of Presidents Johnson and Nixon, Watergate and the Vietnam War. His Richard Nixon was a more truthful version of the resident in the White House, because it admitted what the real Nixon never would. Although he was a brilliantly talented mimic, after Nixon’s resignation Frye faded from view. “My administration has taken crime out of the streets,” Mr. Frye’s Nixon said in one Watergate-era…See More

Meet my friends.

We tire of the wholesome appearances we make on the internet. The tally on Facebook of quiches baked, bottles of wine savored, sunsets appreciated. All opinions are positive, likes only, not even a pixellaid down that we would be ashamed of if our great-grandmother Googledand found it.So can you blame me that in the late nights lately I’ve run with a new, rougher crowd of internet friends? Murray’s Boswell: An interview with writer David M. Bader.

David M. Bader writes quiet, spare, funny books. His newest, “The Book of Murray,”was published last week. Its subject is the until-now lost book of the prophet Murray — part Moses, part Elijah, part Shecky Green. A man who draws a blank when the people put too much pressure on him to prophesy. So he grabs the first topic that he can think of: doom.God, he warns the people, “hath had it up to here, and the day of reckoning is nigh.”Bader is the dry wit…See More

"Teresa, DD and Gita, thanks for taking the time to comment. Gita, are you suggesting that a father teach his son how to pleasure a woman? In the old days, weren't the sons taken to a brothel for instruction? :)"

My son is finishing a six-session unit in his 5th grade public school class called “Family Life.” They called it something different when I was his age, but I have to admit this new name saves adults and kids

from the embarrassment of having to use the S-Word around each other.

Actually, it would be inaccurate to call what my son and his classmates are learning “sexual education.” They’re learning about the male and female…
