That damn door needs oiling, mending, painting, has needed those things for a long time, too long, 'cos nothing ain't going to bring back the days of good harvests when the bales of hay were stacked high in the bar and it wasn't just birds that roosted in there. Push the door harder and you'll catch an echo of the laughter. An old woman sits in a chair. Five times a day someone comes in to wheel her to the loo and wipe her bottom. She's given food and she does eat it sometimes, but other times she can't be bothered, any more than she can be bothered to talk to people who come to visit. I suppose I could put that fish in a story, but I'd rather have pleasant dreams.

Simon Kewin said… OK! My elder daughter is going in for an operation on the 24th (nothing too serious) so the 23rd is out this month I'm afraid. But perhaps March?
Many thanks for asking me by the way.

Simon Kewin said… Cath,
Don't think I can make the 23rd, but as a general principle I'm most definitely interested! Do you meet monthly?
Simon Kewin said… Hi Cath,
Thanks for that! I really, really should join a writer's group. I'll take a good look at my diary!
