"I try to remember a time before you." A truly haunting line I think we can all identify with. Good stuff.

Or a least a some gold...

It's an especially difficult piece to read for people who've lived this. "feeding it like the fire that burned in the belly of an ancient god" This line really defines that self-destructive compulsion. Very real.

Damn...they should have got her the Kelly Hu/Lady Deathstrike doll. Even with claws, it would have been safer. This piece definitely says a lot about stereotypes and diversity.

Excellent counterpoint Angel.

Nice father-son moment! Something one doesn't see all that often! I really enjoyed this piece Angel!

Love it. The drinking. The sweating. Do I hear double wedding bells?

With Night Comes Vengeance

Ian had already lost six of his fingers, an ear, and his kneecaps were broken. Gino straddled Ian’s ruined legs, pulled wire cutters from his jacket, and began snipping boot laces. “I’m gonna freeze-dry your toes and hang ‘em over my fireplace,” he rumbled. “This is the last time I’m gonna ask you where your wife is.” Ian looked up and out the window where the last flames of sunlight blew out like candles. “She’s already on her way from the cemetery,” Ian laughed, knowing his wife would soon dri… Continue

Boy Chat (The flipside perspective to Tessa Scoffs’ Girl Chat)

Read Girl Chat by Tessa Scoffs

“Richie, you’re fallin’ over drunk and you look like shit. What woman in her right mind is gonna wanna dance with you?”

“I hear ya, pop, but I just overheard these two chicks talking about claiming a guy for their own and they was lookin’ right at—”

“Wipe that sweat off your neck and sit your ass down.” He sucked hot wing sauce off his fingertips and relit a soggy cigar.

Richie always… Continue

Hospital Wings

Three babies at Lowell’s Presbyterian Hospital were born with wings within moments of each other. They were far from angelic. The horn-studded, leathery wings had brutally eviscerated their mothers’ wombs upon entry into this world. Reports of similar incidents at hospitals across the state sparked a turbulent wave of widespread panic. The intimidating infants thrashed about restlessly, eerily silent; their tiny, taloned feet hooked into medical equipment wires and ceiling joists. At one minute… Continue

Howl

Hunger should never be considered evil. This is what I tell my four sons every night before they descend upon the village. After inheriting this castle, I spent the first six weeks traveling through its winding corridors and identifying hidden passages. I found my sweet, baby boys imprisoned behind a crumbling wall, confined in upright coffins. Once I extracted each wooden stake, the reanimated bodies cried out with the renewed strength of rebirth and thrashed about the brick and mortar. Some ni… Continue

Counting Six Challenge: Death Sentence

One minute before midnight, the inmate began to scream for his life. Two correction officers entered Carlton’s death row cell, restrained him with nylon straps to a stainless steel gurney, and gagged him. Three cold-blooded murders had granted Carlton the death sentence and he had never once begged for clemency. Four years earlier, Congress had instituted a much more brutal and contemporary alternative to the lethal injection. Five ravenous zombies were unshack… Continue

Angel, Thanks very much for your comment on Daddy Longlegs, at Boston Literary Magazine. I liked writing that poem a lot. For some reason It all fell into place at once, and it seemed pretty true and accurate to me about the speaker's relationship to the person by whom he had been deserted. I had a bit of a time getting it published, which just goes to show me that just because the author likes her/his work, doesn't necessarily mean that readers will. So I'm doubly pleased that you liked it. Thanks again.

So via your interview. I typed in pumpkin haunted underwear (previous to this I typed in Zombie butt - you don't want to see what popped up). This is what I found.

Nah, no sphere-ical pumpkins or professors or skippers. It does have Ol' Joe (you'll remember him from Carnal Greens) and a deep dark hole. I'm thinking flashes in the dark contest - *wink wink*

Angle, THANKYOU so much for approving of the last line. Nobody else (my friends and family) understood it and it's just toooo hard to explain! And I love all of your work, just in case I forget to comment on it.
