My mom was right when she said ,"Life is too short."
My dad told me through every struggle I brought to his attention, "Life is not easy."
My grandmother's insight in her old and wise years was to "Live each day to the fullest."
When I'd sob over the little things my friends would help me realize, "Life goes on."
My little cousin told me "YOLO; I'm about it everyday, everyday, everyday..."

God welcomed me in. Unashamed that his dirty laundry was strewn about the living room, that his house smelled like molded bread. Omnipotent; the creator and overseer. Today, languid and unrestrained. "What have you been up to?" I asked. "Oh, just hangin' out,".

When I was born into the bottom of the rankings, my mother saw no reason to comfort me.
The first day that I can recall of my life is a blur... my callused hands rummaging through garbage for miscellaneous paper products to wrap around my feet.

Another day begins with the stale sound of nothing. Time is irrelevant, but the sun has just risen and I feel the need to express this. On the other side of town, beyond the fence, the chosen are feeding their pets, stretching, drinking orange juice, doing yoga. Some days we just hang on the fence. There is no life to live for us. Mostly, we are just alive.
