Snapshot

Time - if only there was more of it, because the next second might be your last - like a fleeting glimpse of life in a kaleidoscopic burst of colour, a sudden camera flash or perhaps a swirling grey blur of approaching death, or maybe it could be the deep maw of nothing.Time is a memory, a snapshot, an invention; seconds, minutes, hours...perceived as an entity, yet it neither exists as a being nor is sentient, but it yields and bends, it can be manipulated, and it moves even when it is still;…See More

Nothing Lasts

Nothing lasts, not day or night, not a song by either human or lark, not the phases of the Moon casting silver tinted pockets as it marches silently through the heavens, not the seasons swirling like the wind and churning out myriad colours. Not even love can breach infinity, no matter how strong.Nothing lasts, not the ocean or the sky or the shifting earth. Not the sun or the brightest stars, not even your surreal, clouded dreams before they fizzle into oblivion.Writing and art and all that we…See More

"I absolutely love this kind of writing - the gyration of luminous imagery, one vivid illustration into one bracing concept into the next. Grand job taking pain and making it so beautiful that we do not want to look away."

Hemikrania

Split in two, sliced neatly, cleanly, pain delivered like a torpedo, and then slowly the implosion, the distended sensation of life force being sucked into oblivion. No time to recover; the mind explodes into myriad colours, grinding nerve endings and bursting brain cells, then the flicker of lights, sensitivity, brevity to pain, followed by a creeping fatigue. No dark rooms, no silence. No amount of drugs. The pain won’t go away.It creeps through the synapses, swelling with intensity, shorting…See More

Creep

It crept forward, unhurried. Globules of saliva dangled from its mouth like glinting skewers.

Fear churned with fathomless spite, adrenaline swilled in his stomach and it gurgled. The odd sensation seeped through thinly encrusted cells as he watched the creature advance, and a breath lodged in his throat, held his lungs to ransom.

Wide eyes penetrated the dusk, as though to lure, and they mesmerised him as the creature slowly inched forward, sinewy body…
