As an avid reader/writer, I’ve become quite fond of certain words. Supercilious, for example – totally faked me out as it doesn’t have anything to do with being super silly, but in fact quite the opposite. And then there is Delicatessen, which I learned how to spell in 2nd grade by breaking it down by syllable – deli, cat, ess, en. I proudly displayed my knowledge of spelling Delicatessen with my finger on foggy windows, sticks in sand - any medium I could find. Oh and I cannot forget Curmudgeon, which is just a much more fun and colorful way of referring to someone who is being a grouch.

So tell me, what’s your favorite word?

I really like curmudgeon, especially since I became one. I also have a fondness for hinterlands, serendipity, piquant, and superfluous. I really hate the word obfuscate.  I am beginning to like conundrum. Yeah, I seem to have a thing for the vowel u.

Like most of you, I love to read; it is fast becoming a lost art and a disappearing pleasure. I bemoan the diminishing skills of grammar, spelling, and mental math calculation in the younger generations, but I do not obsess over it or believe that these diminished skills herald the beginning of the end of civilization.

Love this site. I hope all of you terrific people continue being brilliant.

serendipity was going to be my 4th favorite word in my post but it would have caused me to exceed 6 sentences. looking back, serendipity is worthy of bending the rules a bit... i'm glad you included it!
Like all your words, and agree with obfuscate.  I keep thinking I will  look it up, since I don't know what it means, but that seems hypocritical somehow.
haha! i absolutely love this anecdote, and i am rather fond of the word 'fuck' as well.
All.
I knew it. ;-)  Is it like asking which child you love the most?
Currently it's bibliotheque and rhubarb
Hahahaha.... I agree with Kori!

My favorite words to hear are "please" and "baby". ;-)

My favorite words to read are "subtle" and "longing".

My favorite words to hear are "obfuscate" and "conundrum". ;-)

My favorite words to read are "fuck" and "douche mixture".

For reasons maybe only Freud could transcribe, I love the word "lettuce." As an insult "douche" is unrivalled.

liminal

(despite the fact I mixed it up with littoral in my head for so long)
