What can YOU say in six sentences?

This year will be my first participating in National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org), the month of November seems to be speeding towards me as I try and think of possible plots, characters, and where I'll have the time to write 50,000 words...

I was simply wondering if anyone else was participating? Maybe we could keep up on each others' word counts, discuss our experience, all that jazz.

Or, what's your experience been with it in the past? Have you never heard of it? Have friends that have pariticipated? I honestly am not sure how big it really is...

Hey Sammi, call me insane, but yes, I'm gonna NaNo. I'm a virgin, though, and given that I am also actively marketing novel #1, going up for tenure, and traveling to help my father while he undergoes radiation and chemo, not sure I will make 50k. But I am using NaNo as an excuse to focus on PURE, novel #2 - it's been calling me in a major way.

It's big - I think > 17,000 folks around the world have registered. I have oodles of friends doing it, including quite a few pubbed/agented writers.

I look at it as stress therapy.

So... whatya writing? peace, Linda

Linda,

I'm hoping it'll be a stress therapy for me as well! That's a LOT on your plate, but I tend to think if busy folks like you can do it, juggling two jobs I should be able to do it as well :) I look forward to hearing about your journey through november! And good luck.

I have no clue what I'm writing as of yet... none at all. I'll definitely be winging it, and since its my first time as well, I'll see if that works for me and possibly do something different in a year.

Sammi, from what I've been told it's very big. A wonderful exercise for everyone. And if you are a winner or finalist it looks good on your bio. I have so much on my plate now that I will probably wait until next time.
If you haven't decided what to write on maybe you could write about...what lead to your decision to do this and what takes place along the way. Good luck.

I agree.. I think a character similar to myself might be a good way to go.. at least for the first time. Thanks Jeanette!

I've never taken this on, but I'm always tempted. I worry about not liking what I end up with. Gotta get over that...

Good luck with it - very cool. And I think it's a great idea to reach out here - Linda and Jeanette and many others can offer valuable advice and support.

I have not done this, yet. Like others the challenge of committing to this length of time is a big issue for me. I am one of those people that doesn't like to say I will unless I'm pretty certain that I can give it my all. But perhaps I will play along next year.

Good Luck to you and all other joining, break a lead or whatever means success in this quirky writing business :-)

Thanks Paige!

I think Joe Grant should do it. That man writes so much he could probably pound out TWO novels in a month. lol

No doubt. You too!

Oh, nononononononononononononono. LoL. I'm a very slow writer. That and I edit as I go, which also slows me down. I average one 100,000 word novel per year.

I appreciate the vote of confidence though.

That's the point though--Literary abandon! No editing as you go! Could be a challenge for ya :)

Hmmmm... you raise a very valid point there, Sammi.
